Degrees such as Business Administration or Information Technology will be accepted by industry professionals. Having an education from DeVry is better than having no education at all.

The first step to a successful career is an education. The foundation of our society’s strength has been a solid educational base. In order to be competitive in the workplace, one must have an education. Without a college education you will only be able to go so far with your career. For most people getting a degree at a traditional university is the way to a college education. For others who may be working or do not have 4+ years at a traditional university to waste, vocational colleges is the answer.

DeVry University is probably the most popular and well known alternative universities in the country. DeVry has gained in popularity over the past 10 years due to their commercials. The university offers college degrees in both the online and offline format throughout its 26 campuses in the United States and Canada.

The DeVry difference is that all classes are focused around real-world learning situations and are taught by professors that have industry experience. Most teachers have only been disconnected from their industry jobs for a few years unlike traditional universities where professors teach for 20+ years without real-world experience.

Class sizes are generally much smaller than traditional universities and students have the options of taking classes around their busy schedule. Having the option to finish their degree at their own pace is welcomed especially by working professionals. The online classes are taught with the same degree of professionalism and focus as a traditional class but at 1/3 of the time. The average DeVry student finishes their Bachelors degree in 3 years. The university offers Associates, Bachelors and Master Degree programs in many well known fields such as Computer Programming, Video Game Design and Engineering.

The general public has the perception that alternative and vocational schools cost much lower than traditional universities but in all actuality prices can be higher. Schools like DeVry, charge student on a per credit basis. On average 1 credit will cost $515. The number of credits required for a degree varies but usually the average degree is 60 credits for a cost well over $30,000. The $30,000 is just the tuition not room and board or living expenses. Individuals can get a degree at a traditional university for much less in most cases. Another drawback of DeVry is the accreditation system. DeVry uses the national accreditation system. Most state schools use the region wide accreditation system which means that credits from DeVry will not transfer to a traditional school.

DeVry for the most part is a pretty decent university. The fact that an individual can earn a degree in a short amount of time is exceptional. Most degrees from DeVry will be viewed by industry professionals as acceptable for employment. Other degrees such as Video Game Design and Engineering will generally not be accepted with open arms by industry professionals. These industries generally require training from specific acceptable institutions which offer in-depth education.
